Running a blog (whether it's part-time or full-time), while also being a full-time mom is an effort that can feel impossible at times.
There were many instances that I considered quitting my creative pursuits and simply focusing all my attention on “mommying”. But I knew in my heart that I needed a creative outlet. That's what running a blog is for me–a creative way for me to share my talents, passions, and interests with the world…and get paid to do it!
One of the things that inspired me to keep going was reading about other mompreneurs. Listening to their stories to hear why they started, where they struggled, and how they found success was just the dose of encouragement I needed to keep going.
In the spirit of inspiring more moms, I'm highlighting a different mompreneur and her story every Monday for the next few months.
These women are hardworking, amazing mommas who are balancing family life and creative business life. They are at varying levels with their blogging business. Some are just getting started. Some have been blogging for years.
Each mom offers a different perspective on what works (and doesn't work) for her when it comes to being a mompreneur.
Take a few minutes to read the mompreneur stories each week and find the inspiration you need to move forward with your own mompreneur journey! Be sure to check out the resources they recommend, take a closer look at their blogs, and signup for their mailing lists to keep in touch!
What do you blog about?
I blog at allnaturaljoy.com, where I equip moms to delight in everyday living. Moms can find encouragement learning about how to be a better parent, how to be encouraged and how to be encouraged in their faith. They will also find tips and tricks for homeschooling along with dealing with food allergies.
How long have you been blogging and what made you decide to start a blog?
I have been blogging since March 1, 2017 when I signed up for Elite Blog Academy. Prior to that day, I had never even considered blogging. It was not anything that ever crossed my mind! Then I stumbled upon an ad for EBA and decided, why not?? I have always been the ‘resource' girl for all of my friends and family, so I thought that blogging would be a great way to share my ideas with more people!
How many children do you have? Ages? What do they think about you being a blogger?
I have seven children. A boy – 16, a girl – 14, a boy – 11, a boy – 9, a girl – 6, a boy – 3, a boy – 7 months. They keep me busy! They absolutely love that I blog! My 11 year old tells me all the time that he is proud of me and that he knows I will do well! My 16-year-old is teaching himself web development so he is my trouble shooter and encourager! My 14-year-old is my media manager! She loves to create my Pins. The other kids are great cheerleaders as well!
What's your favorite thing about blogging?
I absolutely love being able to spread the message that I have on my heart with thousands of people, (without having to go in front of people, cuz I have terrible stage fright! 🙂 )
What your least favorite thing about blogging?
I don't like the learning curve involved with blogging. I can't wait til I can have a handle on most things! I know that I will never know all there is to know, but I don't like having to figure everything out!
What's your favorite blogging tool that you simply cannot go without and why?
I love my Convertkit! Once I switched to their email system, I was so happy! It was so nice to have a streamlined system to send out my emails and keep track of my subscribers! I love being able to keep track of my subscribers and keep in touch!
What's the best advice you would give to a mom looking to start her own mompreneur business?
Take it slow. Rome wasn't built in a day! It takes time, effort, and grit with not a lot of return in the beginning (or maybe even the middle!) Take time off to be with your kids too. Don't forget that you are a mom first. Blogging will be there and kids grow fast!
Just for fun: If you were a beverage, which beverage would you be?
I would definitely be a strawberry milk shake! I'm pretty much, what you see is what you get! I love cheerful and I think strawberry milk shakes are cheerful!! Oh and don't forget the whipped cream!
