Goal Setting for Entrepreneurs

The Secret to Goal Setting with the No Zero Days Approach is a Guest Post from Beck Beach at MomBeach.com.

Do you have goals that you can't manage to reach because you procrastinate? Are the goals so big that you struggle to even get close? These goals are like swallowing a frog, relating to a famous quote by Mark Twain.

Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.

You may have more than one frog to swallow, but which is the bigger frog? Get the bigger froggy goal “swallowed” or finished first.

How to Make Goals Setting More Effective

Now, you don't go about swallowing whole a huge frog (aka goal) unless you have a megamouth! Well, some people say that I have one because I talk so much. But seriously, what you should do is break down this goal into manageable bite-sized pieces.

  • Ask yourself, what can be done concerning this goal for the year?
  • Then, break up what you can do for the goal each month.
  • Next, break it down further for the week and finally for each day.

You can use this free printable goal setting workbook I have made to help.

No More Zero Days Goal Setting Strategy

What if you have trouble doing anything at all for your goal each day? Well, my friend, you should use the philosophy of ryan01 from Reddit, which is “No more zero days”.

This advice went viral around the net and has helped millions of people, including me.

The premise is that you do something for your goal each day, even for 5 minutes.

For example, if your goal is to lose 50 lbs. By the end of 2019, then you should make it a habit to exercise at least 5 minutes a day. Do something at least. Eventually, you can work your way up to 10 minutes and then 30 minutes a day.

Yes, if you break down your goal into bite-sized pieces and “swallow” some of them each day – you will see progress! Don't procrastinate and keep putting off your goal because then, it will never happen.

My Goal Setting Experience

Take me, for example, I put off starting my own blog for several years. My blog's domain was purchased four years ago and I only wrote 1 post! The blog lay dormant for all those years when I have been building it up.

Instead, other things came up that were more important like watching Netflix marathons, video games, and other idle activities. I never made the time for my blog and even forgot I had one.

What finally got me to start working on my blog again was the desire to help other moms make money with a side hustle. The nearly passive eCommerce business I had started as a side hustle was profitable so why not share what I know? I had enough time to do so if I was watching so much TV.

Do Something Each Day

Each day, I do something for my blog such as write a short article outline, watch a blogging course, start an opt-in freebie, or even write an article idea.

If I don't feel like doing anything, I say to myself, “No more zero days! Do something productive for at least 5 minutes!”

When I say that, sometimes I yell it out loud and my family thinks I'm nuts. It gets me on the path to accomplishing my goal of having a successful blog.

My Personal Goal

I'd like to reach as many moms as possible with my blog so I can help them make money online. It makes me feel worthwhile knowing that I am helping someone else achieve their financial goals.

Goals That Motivate You To Take Action

Find out what motivates you.

  • Why do you want to achieve your goal?
  • Who will you be if you get what you want?
  • How will you feel?

Maybe write these answers down on a sticky note and put it on your mirror so you can see your motivation each day.

Think of the benefits of achieving your goals as the driving force for your success.

Take the time to break up your froggy big goal into pieces and actually do something, anything, to work towards it each day.

Remember, no more zero days!
