Interview with Pennie, Blogger at Naturemama
What's the name of your blog? What do you blog about?
The name of my blog is Naturemama. I mostly write about healthy family living, homemade (mostly healthy) recipes, organic and real foods, and natural remedies. You’ll also hear stories from my family life with the best hubby in the world, our miracle princess and our 2 fur-babies.
How long have you been blogging and what made you decide to start a blog?
I have been blogging for approx. 4 years. My first blog Pennnylane.dk was a Danish blog and actually more of a diary. My mother inspired me to start a blog, to share my feelings as my husband and I had spent many years struggling to conceive – and not being able to become a mother sent me into a depression. We tried everything, IVF, ICSI and finally just gave up!
I needed an outlet and somewhere to share all my frustrations, and my blog became the solution for me! This year in March I bought the Elite Blog academy course and started NatureMama.net–This time with a whole new goal! I want to change the world! (no small goals here!!) 😉
These first 4 years of just blogging for myself changed my life. I started to focus on my health and MY well-being – finally putting myself first and taking responsibility for my health. We changed our diet to low carb/non-processed foods and stuck to it for 2 whole years!! (I will admit that we've not quite been as adamant…and some unhealthy choices have crept back in, but we're in the midst of fixing that!)
The result of those 2 years? You guessed it! I got pregnant! A total natural conception. We were in shock and SOOOO happy!!! (So when I say she's a Miracle Princess, well, she really is!)
And now I want to share my story with the world and hope that I can inspire other infertile women to take better care of themselves and put their health first!
I find it scary to know that my little girl's generation is said to have a shorter life expectancy then their parents (!!!!) and I want to change that! And I hope to make the change of living a more natural lifestyle easier for my readers then it has been for me 🙂
How many children do you have? Ages? What do they think about you being a blogger?
I have one child – Dianna who is almost 20 months now (on the 26th), but am a proud step parent to two kids as well. Malene who is 23 and Danni who is 20.
Dianna is really too young to know anything about blogging, but she poses for a lot of my pictures and she loves to look at my Instagram feed!
Malene is one of my biggest supporters and I love sharing thoughts and post ideas with her. She is a great sounding board for me and keeps me “hip” – when I get too old school.
Danni doesn't really have any interest in blogging, that was until I told him about affiliate marketing… “So you mean you can earn money when someone just clicks on your links???? – WOW!” It was quite nice to see the impressiveness in his eyes!
What's your favorite thing about blogging?
I love sharing my story and the response I've gotten! Mostly from friends and family so far, since my blog is so new.
Blogging is an outlet for me and I spend a lot of time reading blogs as well! Also, I really love the technical and design side as well. I've designed my site myself and spend a lot of time in Photoshop creating pins for Pinterest and Instagram. I LOVE it!
What your least favorite thing about blogging?
All the scheduling and figuring out what goes where etc.!
And time management! Everything takes longer then I want it to, and it's tough to know what to prioritize!
What's your favorite blogging tool that you simply cannot go without and why?
On a side note – I will mention that Elite Blog Academy totally changed my perspective on my blog. I handle it as a business now and not just my own personal diary. EBA has helped me focus my efforts and set future goals. I am not sure I could call it a “tool” – but my blog definitely wouldn't be anywhere near as great without this course!
What's the best advice you would give to a mom looking to start her own mompreneur business?
Don't be afraid! We often hold ourselves back from what we really want, because we are afraid. But you'll never succeed, if you don't try! Take a chance and live your dreams! You may fail, but you can always try again. (F.A.I.L = first attempt in learning!) 🙂
Just for fun: If you were a beverage, which beverage would you be?
My absolute favorite beverage is without a doubt: A strawberry daiquiri – but since you can't drink that every day – all day – I would probably be a Double-shot Vanilla-Latte!
