How to Start a Mompreneur Business

Whether you are in the very beginning stages of starting your mompreneur business or you're ready to jump back into a business that you took a mini break from, this post is for you.

Juggling the role of mom + entrepreneur is no easy task.

There can be so many moving pieces when it comes to running your business, that it can easily become a daunting experience that will (if you allow it) keep you from taking any action at all!

I've had my far share of ups and downs when it comes to running Mompreneur Money. It's taken a considerable amount of effort and sticktoitiveness for me to keep moving forward with my goal of inspiring as many entreprenerial-spirited moms as possible to bring their business dreams to life.

I'm writing this post in an effort to help you feel less overwhelmed and take action in your business.

Here are 5 action steps to kickstart (or restart) your mompreneur business:

Get clear on who your business is serving and why.

You start a business to serve a particular need of a particular audience. For me, I help mom entrepreneurs by offering tips and advice on resources to grow their online businesses.

If you don't know who your audience is and what their pain points or problem areas are then it makes it hard to come up with your why.

Have a Professional and Easy to Navigate Website

I'm not telling you to go out and spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on creating a website. That is absolutely unnecessary. There are a million ways to create a beautifully designed website that is both affordable and functional.

I continue to use WordPress + Genesis Framework and Child Themes from resources like Restored 316 and Pretty Darn Cute Designs for all of my websites.

But there are other resources such as Squarespace and Shopify (especially for ecommerce websites) that could be a good fit for your business model and won't break the bank.

Don't get so caught up in creating your website that it keeps you from actually building your business. Keep it simple and make small improvements over time.

Create Relatable Content for Readers

One of the best ways to do this is to do an analysis of the problems that your readers face and create content based on different ways to solve those problems.

But if you don't yet have an audience, you can research FB groups and blog comments of bloggers/business owner in your niche to find out what is ailing those readers.  You can then use this goldmine of info to create content for your own business.

This is also a good time to create a simple lead magnet and start building an email list. Use what you learn about your audience to write emails that really resonate with them.

Create a Monetization Strategy

Will you be offering a service?

Creating a product to sell?

Offering sponsored posts?

Using affiliate marketing?

There are a ton of ways to monetize your business, and you don't have to do ALL OF THEM. Instead, start with one or two and focus on growing the revenue from that method.

Have a Solid Content Sharing Plan

You've heard this a thousand times. You can have the best content in the world but if your tribe doesn't know about it, then it can't help them.

I choose to use Pinterest as my main method of sharing content. But you have to decide what works best for you and your business. If social media is how you plan to share your content, pick one and put your effort into figuring out how to work your business in that space.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ACTIVE ON ALL SOCIAL MEDIUM PLATFORMS. Unless you have hired a team of people who are helping you run your business, it's unrealistic to try to establish a presence on multiple platforms at once.

Pick one. Learn it. Make your life and your business life easier.

Take Action

Now it's time for you to take what you've read and put it into action. Just pick one of these steps and get started.

Running your mompreneur business is a marathon of steady steps. It's okay to pace yourself. Just keep taking action and use any momentum you build up to help you get more done.
