5 Ways to Make Mom Friends in Business

Looking for ideas to meet more mom friends?

In recent years, my mom friends in both my personal life and business life have saved me from insanity more times than I can count. I can't even begin to tell you how extremely grateful I am for these friendships.

But I wasn't always this lucky.

You see, back in the summer of 2008, I was starting over in a new city, with a new husband, no job, and no local friends.

Despite having my loving and supportive husband by my side, I felt a deep sense of loneliness from the lack of female companionship in my new city.

Making new friends in my late 20s–I mean like actual friends who wanted to hang out, go to a movie, or just get together for lunch–became a tedious and joyless task.

I remember joining organizations, going to network meetings, and even going to a few meetings with the local chapter of my sorority but still feeling as if I was the odd girl out.

Have you had this experience of lacking friendships? It totally sucks, right?

After a while, I just decided that I would adopt the mindset of No New Friends–inspired by my love for music by the artist Drake (gotta love Drake).

I thought that if I made the decision to have No New Friends then I'd be less disappointed by my lack of friendship in my new city.

And even though this mindset worked for a while, it wasn't sustainable and it still left me feeling unhappy and alone.

Honestly, it wasn't until after I had my twin boys that I began to forge new friendships.

Slowly, I began to meet new “mom friends” who could relate to my struggle with motherhood, finances, marriage, and more.

After years of feeling a void, the hole finally began to fill itself.

So, why am I telling you all of this?

Just as in life, you need friendships in business too.

If you are blogging, running an online boutique, or creating digital products, it can get lonely working on your own.

You need to find yourself a community in your niche to be a part of–preferable at least one local community that allows you to interact with people in person.

As much as I disliked the idea of MLM companies a few years back, one of the things they do best is to create a sense of community among sellers. That's golden.

When you are a part of a network of people with similar ideas and goals, magic starts to happen. You're exposed to new ideas, creative thinking, and more.

It's so freaking cliche…and I hate to say it…but….

No woman is an island.

You need a community. I need a community. There's no way around it.
