I'm often asked what products and resources I use to run my mompreneur business. The truth is that there are a lot of awesome tools out there that we could be using to boost our businesses and productivity. The question is: WHERE THE HECK DO YOU START? Because you have to start somewhere, right?
Below are the steps and tools I recommend for those who want to become a mompreneur. These are business tools that I use to run MompreneurMoney.com + some educational resources that I have personally used!
A little disclaimer–a few of these links are affiliate links which mean I will receive a commission if you pay to sign up. I only recommend products and services that I have faith in and believe will be of service to my readers.
Step 1. Start a Blog/Website
SiteGround – This is who I use for my web hosting (you need web hosting to start a self-hosted WordPress website). Their pricing starts at $3.95 per month they have an amazing customer service team. If you don't already have a blog/website, then please come back to this resource page later and instead click here to read my post on How to Start a Blog You Can Monetize.
Genesis Framework – This is the tool I use to make sure the overall framework of my website remains steady. Genesis Framework allows you to quickly and easily build beautiful websites with WordPress without stressing about altering the HTML code. My website runs on Genesis Framework and a Genesis Child Theme from Restored 316 Designs.
Restored 316 Designs – After you secure your web hosting, and install Genesis Framework, you'll need a website theme to beautify it all! I love the beautiful, feminine WordPress themes offered by Restored 316 Designs. They run on Genesis Framework and make your blog look professional and amazing for a fraction of the cost of paying a web designer for a custom look!
Step 2. Build Your Email List
ConvertKit – Start building your email list as soon as possible because it will be your main communication gateway with your audience. After using MailChimp and AWeber, I started using ConvertKit a few years ago and fell in love with this platform. I use it to create email campaigns, free courses and give away my free workbooks and planners.
Step 3. Brand Your Blog/Website (Non-Techie Graphic Design + Feminine Blog Graphics)
Canva – I'm infatuated with Canva!!! This is what I use to make my website headers, Pinterest images, Kindle book covers, etc.
Creative Market – I use this site to purchase fonts for my book covers, find background patterns, and even images for my website and books.
Ivory Mix – I recently invested in a $10 monthly membership to Ivory Mix. This affordable monthly cost is well worth it for access to hundreds of beautiful images that I can use on blog posts, Pinterest pins, Facebook promotions and more!
Step 4. Grow Your Traffic Using Social Media
(Important Message: Don't try to do EVERY SINGLE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM at once. Pick one, and perfect your craft of using it. Then move on to another platform.)
Strategies Worth Sharing – As a part of my membership to Elite Blog Academy, I got access to this Facebook Page Strategy as a bonus and it's been amazing for the two Facebook Business Pages I run. Starting at $20, it's a solid investment to help with building momentum on Facebook.
Pinterest Strategy Guide – Following the steps outlined in this 3-page pdf–Yes, I said 3 pages and it's the best 3 pages you will ever pay for as a blogger–took me from 44 Pinterest followers to over 1000 followers in a little over 30 days. Pinterest is not my #1 traffic source.
Recommended Resource to Create an Online Course
Teachable – I use the Teachable Platform to create and sell online courses to my audience. It's a great platform with an affordable monthly cost that helps to keep my expenses low. You can check out some other online course platforms here.
Recommended Training Programs
Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing – This course is the primary reason I've been able to grow my affiliate marketing income by several hundred dollars per month. Michelle, the course creator, is an affiliate income queen and I don't know of any course better than hers and as affordable as hers to help you learn the ropes of affiliate marketing!
Pinterest to Profits – If you are looking for a method of growing your website traffic and profits as a mompreneur, you absolutely should be building your Pinterest presence. Pinterest to Profits has helped me to now make Pinterest my #1 traffic source to my blog! McKinzie's course is simply amazing especially if you have NO CLUE how to use Pinterest to your advantage.
Elite Blog Academy – After 2 years of running my blog by the seat of my pants, I decided to make an investment in myself by enrolling in Elite Blog Academy. If you are serious about turning your blog into a business, this is a course you should consider and at least get on the waitlist (it only opens once per year)!
Publish a Book in 90 Days – If you have been contemplating writing your first non-fiction book–whether it's self-help, business, an autobiography, finance, health, etc.–then you should check out this free video training that will get you started on your journey to self-publishing your book.
Feeling a little better about where to start?
These are the tools that keep my business running. I know that there are plenty of awesome tools for bloggers out there, but like I said at the beginning…you have to start somewhere. This list is a good start, especially for any new mompreneurs.
