Interview with Ciara, Blogger at Nomad Mom Life
What's the name of your blog? What do you blog about?
The name of my blog is Nomad Mom Life. My family and I travel extensively with my husband’s job. So we move internationally every 2-3 years. I started calling myself The Nomad Mom. On my blog, Nomad Mom Life, I inspire moms to to live life intentionally no matter their circumstances. I share tip, tricks and hacks on how to make a location-independent income, travel with kids, and essentially how to bloom where you’re planted.
How long have you been blogging and what made you decide to start a blog?
I've been blogging since 2011. I started this blog after I had my first child. My family moves internationally every few years with my husband's job. So, since 2014, we've lived in four different countries (Currently, we're living in China), and I've given birth twice! As with all new mothers, I was exhausted and trying to get everything right while still keeping the house clean and making sure we had food to eat. I was also living in temporary housing and didn't have half of my appliances, and constantly felt like I was failing. One morning, I sat and chatted (complained) with my mom, and she said, “Baby, this life is not for sissies. You should write about it.” So, I have my mom to thank for my blog. She encouraged me to write about my nomad mom life.
How many children do you have? Ages? What do they think about you being a blogger?
My kids are 3 and 1 years old. They have no clue that I'm a blogger, but they have a love/hate relationship with my laptop. They both want to bang on the keys (a no-no), but they hate when I take it out because they know “mommy's working.” They're just too cute.
What's your favorite thing about blogging?
My favorite thing about blogging is that I can do it anywhere! Given our nomadic lifestyle and our young children, finding a job this flexible and this lucrative is slim to none. Plus, it serves as a wonderful foundation to provide services. It's so versatile.
What your least favorite thing about blogging?
My least favorite thing about blogging is the technology aspect. I'm not a technology guru, but I'm too stubborn to ask for help. So, I spend a lot of time yelling at my laptop.
What's your favorite blogging tool that you simply cannot go without and why?
My favorite blogging tool is Elite Blog Academy (EBA). This course has taught me everything I ever needed to know about (and more) about blogging. I refer to the course (and the community of bloggers) whenever I have a question or need advice from my peers.
Another everyday tool that I just love is Canva! I use Canva for every graphic on my blog. The free version is all you need but the paid version makes life so much simpler.
What's the best advice you would give to a mom looking to start her own mompreneur business?
The best advice I'd give to a mompreneur looking to start her own business is to be consistent. You don't have to be an expert, a genius, or have multiple degrees. You do need to come back to your laptop consistently every day. Success comes to those who work diligently when no one knows (or cares) who they are.
Just for fun: If you were a beverage, which beverage would you be?
Don't laugh…but I'd be a Matcha Green Tea blended with fresh coconut milk.
